Joe's Ride and Stride
Remembering Olney's Kids

For the fourth year in a row, friends and family of Joe Sanford and the Greater Olney Civic Association have joined together to provide a fun event that has become a cornerstone to the Olney Days weekend that not only helps to raise funds to support the Joseph Patrick Sanford Memorial Foundation and Olney Days itself, but provides an opportunity to recognize and remember families in Olney and the surrounding communities who have endured the sorrow of losing a child and to help keep the memory of those children alive.

Joe’s Ride and Stride Remembering Olney’s Kids takes place on Saturday morning, May 20th beginning at 7:00 am when hundreds of riders, of all levels of ability, join us for a 45 K Ride, a 10K Ride, and Bike Rodeo done by Montgomery County Park Police. And this year we have added an event – a 5K Stride – for those who want to participate, but for whom bike riding is not their thing for a variety of reasons.

All of the Rides and the Stride begin and end in the parking lot of Oakdale Emory Church. The morning’s activities include a brief, but touching remembrance ceremony at 7:45 am that includes launching balloons with the names of each child being remembered. Contact Betsy or Russ Sanford at 301 519-3835 for more information about memorializing a child.

Applications can be downloaded here or picked up at Fletcher’s Service Center, 17901 Georgia Avenue in Olney and should be mailed or dropped off there by May 10th. Packets can be picked up there as well May15th-19th.
